Uniting for Privacy: Launching the #MyPrivacyMatters Movement to Champion Privacy Rights Nationwide
Date: February 5, 2024
In an era where personal privacy is under unprecedented scrutiny, a new movement emerges, aiming to ignite a national conversation on the sanctity of individual privacy rights. American Conservatory is proud to share the #MyPrivacyMatters movement, sparked by the growing concerns over California's recent neglect of established US Supreme Court precedents on privacy, seeks to unite voices from across the nation in a powerful call to action. This initiative is not just a campaign; it's a burgeoning community rallying for the protection and recognition of our constitutional rights to privacy.
The United States Supreme Court, through landmark cases such as Roe v. Wade, Griswold v. Connecticut, and Whalen v. Roe, has long recognized the fundamental right to privacy, especially concerning personal and medical information. These decisions underscore the principle that individuals have a protected interest in preventing the disclosure of personal matters and the autonomy to make decisions free from unwarranted public scrutiny. Furthermore both State and Federal lawmakers have passed a series of laws over the decades, such as the California Medical Information Act (CMIA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), to protect individual's medical status and medical freedoms providing civil protections and rights to be free from discrimination on personal medical decisions.
Despite these protections, recent actions and policies in California have raised significant concerns, suggesting a departure from these established rights, compelling us to take a stand. The #MyPrivacyMatters movement is more than just a response to these concerns; it's a proactive declaration that our privacy rights are non-negotiable and must be respected and protected at all levels of government.
Why the Movement is Crucial:
• To Educate and Empower: Through the dissemination of information and personal stories, the #MyPrivacyMatters movement aims to educate the public on their rights and the current threats to their privacy. Empowerment through knowledge is a cornerstone of our strategy.
• To Mobilize and Advocate: By mobilizing a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations, the movement seeks to advocate for policy changes that align with the Supreme Court's long standing recognition of privacy rights.
• To Challenge and Change: The ultimate goal is to challenge the status quo in California and elsewhere, pushing for legal reforms that ensure the protection of privacy rights. Through strategic litigation and public advocacy, we aim to take the fight for privacy rights all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary.
The #MyPrivacyMatters movement calls on everyone who believes in the sanctity of privacy to join us. Through a series of planned activities, including social media challenges, community rallies, and legal actions, we aim to build a groundswell of support that can bring about real change. Your voice, your story, and your support can make a difference in this critical battle for privacy rights.
As part of this effort we are launching a fundraiser for three unique lawsuits in Tulare County, where three special education public instruction teachers were unlawfully terminated and discriminated against based on their medical decisions, as well as having their medical privacy violated. These cases are currently being petitioned with the US Supreme Court and can have meaningful relief for all Americans when it comes to unlawful executive mandates and government overreach.
"We are not just numbers; we are individuals with rights, dignity, and stories. Together, we stand against any authority or legislation that seeks to infringe upon our privacy. This is our call to action—to unite, to share, and to fight for what is rightfully ours. The #MyPrivacyMatters movement is just the beginning. Together, we can protect our privacy and shape the future of our rights."
